Godiva out to tender!

February 23rd, 2010 by Dave – Marketing @ CV One

After an influx of requests from local music promoters all vying for a chance to programme a tent at this year’s Godiva Festival, organisers CV One Ltd have decided to open up the programming of the Rhythm Tent, which is sponsored by Harry Shaw Business Computers, to tender for Saturday 3rd of July.

Promoters will need to outline the genre and style of music and bands they would like to see at the festival in the tender application document (which can be downloaded here).  Applications will need to be submitted to CV One by no later than 12 noon on Monday March 8th and shortlisted candidates will be notified during the week commencing on the 8th March. Successful candidates who make it through the stringent judging panel will be invited to present their ideas on the 12th of March and the final decision will be made on the 19th March.  Funding will be supplied and full terms and conditions will be outlined in the tender application.

Mick McLaughlin, Marketing and Communications Manager for CV One Ltd said:

“This is something completely new and original to Godiva, we felt after being bombarded by requests through social networking sites, telephone enquiries and postal applications, opening up the Rhythm Tent to tender was the fairest way to ensure everyone who was interested got a chance in submitting their ideas.”

He added,

“Godiva has always been a community event and by inviting people to pitch us their ideas on who they’d like to see play really adds to the festival spirit and atmosphere. Depending on the response, this could become a permanent fixture in the festival’s programming.”

Chris Neal, Harry Shaw Business Computers commented:

“Once again we are delighted to be sponsoring the rhythm tent at Godiva and think that the tender opportunity is a brilliant idea. We are looking forward to hearing what the public would like to see at their local festival and think that it will add another dimension to this fantastic community event.”

If you would like to see a rock, jazz, hip hop, big band, drum and bass or something completely different at Godiva this year and think you have the knowledge and drive to make it happen you can obtain a tender application document from here.

The festival is produced by CV One Ltd and is supported financially and in kind by Coventry City Council and Harry Shaw Business Computers.

The Godiva Festival has recently scooped the top prize at the Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards for Best One Off or Annual Event.

The festival beat off stiff competition from the Flavours of Herefordshire Festival, Ludlow Food and Drink Festival and the Women’s Chainmaker Festival to take the top place at the dazzling ceremony in the ICC in Birmingham.

The awards are a celebration of the very best in tourism in the West Midlands and showcase the diverse and fantastic range of attractions, accommodation and tourism venues that this region has to offer. They were established to recognise the commitment, innovation and standard of the tourism practitioners who help generate £6 billion for the local economy.

Nicola Leake, Head of Destination Marketing for CV One ltd and Councillor Tim Sawdon, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Libraries were presented the exclusive Wedgewood award by Bobbie Heavens, TWM Board Member and last year’s winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism alongside presenters Suzanne Virdee and Nick Owen.

Nicola Leake said:

“To win such a coveted award is a fantastic achievement for the festival and it is testament to everyone involved in the planning and production of this amazing event.

This year we saw record numbers of attendees who came to revel in the sunshine, soak up the atmosphere and catch live performances from some of the UK’s finest artists. This prestigious award rewards the festival with the recognition that it deserves.”

In addition to winning the top prize at the Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards, Godiva has also been shortlisted amongst the likes of festival giants, Glastonbury for the UK Festival Awards’ Best Major Festival, which is a huge achievement in itself.
