Godiva out to tender!

February 23rd, 2010 by Dave – Marketing @ CV One

After an influx of requests from local music promoters all vying for a chance to programme a tent at this year’s Godiva Festival, organisers CV One Ltd have decided to open up the programming of the Rhythm Tent, which is sponsored by Harry Shaw Business Computers, to tender for Saturday 3rd of July.

Promoters will need to outline the genre and style of music and bands they would like to see at the festival in the tender application document (which can be downloaded here).  Applications will need to be submitted to CV One by no later than 12 noon on Monday March 8th and shortlisted candidates will be notified during the week commencing on the 8th March. Successful candidates who make it through the stringent judging panel will be invited to present their ideas on the 12th of March and the final decision will be made on the 19th March.  Funding will be supplied and full terms and conditions will be outlined in the tender application.

Mick McLaughlin, Marketing and Communications Manager for CV One Ltd said:

“This is something completely new and original to Godiva, we felt after being bombarded by requests through social networking sites, telephone enquiries and postal applications, opening up the Rhythm Tent to tender was the fairest way to ensure everyone who was interested got a chance in submitting their ideas.”

He added,

“Godiva has always been a community event and by inviting people to pitch us their ideas on who they’d like to see play really adds to the festival spirit and atmosphere. Depending on the response, this could become a permanent fixture in the festival’s programming.”

Chris Neal, Harry Shaw Business Computers commented:

“Once again we are delighted to be sponsoring the rhythm tent at Godiva and think that the tender opportunity is a brilliant idea. We are looking forward to hearing what the public would like to see at their local festival and think that it will add another dimension to this fantastic community event.”

If you would like to see a rock, jazz, hip hop, big band, drum and bass or something completely different at Godiva this year and think you have the knowledge and drive to make it happen you can obtain a tender application document from here.

The festival is produced by CV One Ltd and is supported financially and in kind by Coventry City Council and Harry Shaw Business Computers.

The snow must go on….

February 19th, 2010 by Chris – Events @ CV One

It’s always bizarre planning for a summer music festival during the winter months but the last couple of days have been especially strange. Mother nature decided to dump bucket loads of snow onto the Midlands last night leaving many stranded in traffic jams or stuck trying to get up hills.

While the snow was falling outside yesterday (and melting today), inside Godiva HQ we are very much thinking of sunnier days to come in July. 2009 was a stunning year for Godiva weather and we’re hoping for more of the same in 2010. Our time at the moment is very much spent making enquiries into various bands, including the all important Saturday headliner (which we are working on as I write!). At Godiva we always try to present a mix of entertainment with some well established bands alongside new names and emerging talent. Predicting who will make it big (or bigger) in the future is almost as hard as predicting the weather - but we hope we’ll be able to give a platform to some of the fantastic up and coming bands who are emerging in the UK music scene.

On a more local level - we’re hoping to find four of the best local unsigned bands around to perform on the mainstage on Saturday 3rd July. To do this we have our Godiva Unsigned competition and entries are coming in thick and fast (with some very high quality bands already emerging). Our full judging panel will be announced in the coming days and weeks, but they are going to have a really tricky job getting the entries down to a shortlist for the live heats.

If you are in a local unsigned band (and by local we mean from Coventry, Warwickshire or the West Midlands) then you really should send us a demo. Our online application is very simple - so you have nothing to lose! Want to play on the main stage of the Midlands Biggest Free Family Festival? Click HERE to get more details and enter the competition.

Until the next time…. enjoy the snow…..

However this year we’ve opened the competition up to any unsigned band from the West Midlands and Warwickshire. That means Birmingham, Warwick, Solihull, Stratford, Coventry, Nuneaton and beyond! So come on…. are you in a band? Do you want the chance to play in front of thousands on a huge festival stage? Yes? Then click this link to complete an online application and submit a demo: ENTER HERE

In other news - we’re gearing up for our big office move in March which will see the whole of the festival team together under one roof. Exciting!

We’re also busy talking to agents and bands about the all important line up for the festival and we’ll bring you all the big news, right here, the moment it is announced!

Another year draws to a close…

December 1st, 2009 by Chris – Events @ CV One

….and our thoughts turn to 2010.

I can’t believe it’s December already - we’ve just finished turning on the Christmas Lights in Coventry and I have to say they are looking mighty fine! It’s always strange for us at this time of year to be thinking about next years Godiva Festival and hoping for good weather. We’ve been really lucky with all our events in 2009 as it’s been a largely dry year for us. Fingers crossed that 2010 will bring us more of the same.

Here’s a brief round up of news from the Godiva Festival office:

  • 2009 was the busiest (and we think the best) year for the festival with around 89,000 of you turning out to enjoy 3 days of awesome entertaiment.
  • 2009 also saw the festival gain wide recognition, winning the Heart of England Excellence in Tourism award for Best Annual Event AND being nominated for several UK Festival Awards (which we were sadly pipped to the post in).
  • We’re planning for a big office move in early 2010 which will bring all the various departments of the festival together under one roof (making things much easier we hope).
  • We’re also busy planning for the 2010 Godiva Festival which will be bigger and better than anything we’ve done before.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who have been involved in Godiva this year. Each and every person who works for or with us is a true star in their own right! Also thanks to YOU, our wonderful festival goers, for supporting us and coming with us on our amazing journey.

Here’s to 2010.

I hope the Christmas season brings you happiness and peace. If you are searching for something to do in Coventry over the festive period then check out http://www.coventrysfairytale.co.uk/ for all your festive fun and frolics! Whatever you do - stay safe and have a good one!

Until 2010….
